Mathematics of Sailing

One of our research focuses is currently on the mathematical aspects of sailing. Our group is in particular interested in topics related to Discrete Mathematics, Convexity and Machine Learning. We are working for instance on theory and applications of polar performance diagrams.
On wednesdays we have weekly meetings, including seminar talks and lectures from experts in related fields.
We are also working on practical aspects of machine learning, creating a small "land sailing robot".
Current Hot Topics
We are in particular thinking and working on Weather Routing Algorithms, Polar Performance Diagrams and Timeseries Forecasting (in cooperation with Rostocks fantastic CITlab group).
Recently, we have created a data processing framework for polar performance diagrams and implemented a corresponding Python package hrosailing. It includes a detailed preprocessing framework for the generation of polar performance diagrams.
